Chapter 15: Homo Superior

"How much do you know about the term 'homo superior'?" Loki asked you with the utmost importance in his voice.

"I think I've heard that in news report when I was like 3. Why?" You were confused. The term sounded Latin, and unfortunately for you, you had never study Latin in school.

"I can't think of the word in English." Loki groaned, his nose scrunched up and he closed his eyes. He held the bridge of his nose in thought. Then as if a lightbulb went off over his head, he looked up at you.

"I believe it's called mutant in English."

"Mutants? Well I know that some have powers and some just look, well, different compared to humans. Why?"

"Have you ever met a mutant before?" Loki seemed to be avoiding your question.

"Not that I know of. Have you?" Loki nodded his head and seemed to cringe.

"When I was being held by SHIELD, the mutant was pretty young, but that's not important here." He looked at you and shook his head.

"Your cellular device...It acts weird when around you right?"

"Sometimes, I mean it says it's always charging."

"Do you ever wonder why?"

"Well I just assume it's because we're here on Alfheim."

Loki was silent, he was twiddling with his thumbs. He looked to his left before looking back at you. He stared at you for a while before opening his mouth.

"That's not it, (Name), you're a homo superior...A mutant, and that's why I took you. I thought I could harness your electric powers and use them in a way of revenge."

You felt as though a ton of bricks had hit you. A mutant? You were taught to fear mutants ever since you were young. Mutants were considered bad by many humans. You looked at Loki then at your hands. You had heard that most mutants manifest their powers during puberty, how come you didn't?

"Why?" You let the word come out.

"Why what?" Loki was confused now.

"WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?!" You screamed. Suddenly the lights in the house were forced off. You felt the same rush of energy that you did from the thunderstorms. Loki flinched and tried to look at you.

"I...I don't know..."

That was it. That was the sentence that pushed you over the edge. You got up from you chair and ran outside of the house. You kept running not caring how many elves saw you as human. You kept running even though your legs felt like they were on fire.

You finally made it to your place. Your place as in the field you and Loki would go to a lot. You ran to the middle of the field and let yourself fall to your knees. You felt tears form at the corners of your eyes. Why were you crying?

You felt like everything was a lie. Loki didn't bring you here because he thought you were 'special', he brought you here because he wanted to harness your powers. Wait...Did your parents know you were a mutant. Oh God, what would Annabel say? She was your only friend, would she just leave you?

You looked up at the sky and screamed until you felt your lungs burn. Tears were definitely pouring from your eyes. You balled your hands up into fist and began to pound them into the ground. How come you never knew. Wouldn't the gene for being a mutant show up whenever you went to the doctors for check ups?

You felt your eyes burn even more. You just couldn't cry anymore. You groaned and fell backwards onto your back. You felt a bulge in your back pocket and realized it was your phone. You took it out, only to discover it was tangled in your headphones. You untangled your headphones and plugged them into the port.

You shoved the earbuds into your ears and looked for your music. When you finally settled on a song you looked up at the sky. Why did this have to happen to you. Why couldn't it have happened to someone else? Not that you would wish this, but why couldn't it happen to Annabel, or some other girl? Why you?

You heard crunching in the grass behind you. You knew that it was a person, but you didn't bother getting up and looking to see who it was. You had a feeling of who it was.

"Mind if I join you?" Loki's voice drifted into your ears.

"Yes." You said loud enough for him to get that you were mad at him.

"Look, I know I should've told you when I took you. But I just couldn't...I didn't know how to put it into words." His voice seemed different, but that didn't stop you from telling him to leave.

You had thought he left, but were surprised when he laid down next to you. He didn't say anything, he just looked up at the sky. Sharing the silence with you.
